CiteFact checks whether references in a bibliography correspond to works recorded in scholarly registries (CrossRef and OpenAlex). Verdicts are advisory: a "not found" flag means our sources contain no close match, not a legal or academic determination that a source is fabricated. A "verified" result means a close match exists, not an endorsement of how the source is used. Always confirm flagged items yourself.
The free tier is limited per browser and per network address. Paid passes and subscriptions are quota-limited as described at purchase. Fair-use limits exist so the service stays available to everyone; accounts or keys that resell or automate access beyond those limits may be throttled.
Payments are processed by our merchant of record, which is the seller of record for all transactions and handles billing, sales taxes, and refunds. Domain-specific refund terms are shown at checkout. If a purchase did not work as described, write to contact@citefact.com and we will make it right.
The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Registry coverage is incomplete, particularly outside English-language journals. To the maximum extent permitted by law, CiteFact's total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose.
Do not use the service to harass others, to fabricate "evidence" about colleagues' work, or to overload the service or its upstream data sources.
We may update these terms; the "last updated" date above changes when we do. Continued use after a change is acceptance of the new terms.
