What we collect, in full
- The references you paste. They are sent to our server, checked against
CrossRef and OpenAlex, and returned. Individual reference strings and their verdicts are
cached (so repeat lookups are instant), keyed by the reference text alone — never linked
to you, your address, or your key. We do not store your full document or bibliography.
- A random browser token (stored in your browser's localStorage) and your
network address, used only to enforce free-tier limits. Addresses are kept in memory,
not written to disk.
- License key usage counts, to enforce the quota you purchased.
- Anonymous daily totals (visits, checks run). No per-user analytics, no
third-party trackers, no advertising pixels, no Google Analytics.
What we never see
Payments are handled entirely by our merchant of record; your name, card details, and
billing address never reach CiteFact's servers.
Third parties
Reference text is sent to CrossRef and OpenAlex — public, nonprofit scholarly
registries — as search queries, with no information about you attached.
